Velvet Deer Antler
Deer Antler Velvet has been around for at least 2,000 but has just recently been taken advantage of in the US in recent years. The first evidence of the medicinal use of deer antler velvet was found on a scroll found in China. The scroll is believed to be about 2,000 years old. It recommends medical treatments for over 50 different diseases using the velvet deer antlers.
Chinese medicine isn't the only group that has been using velvet deer antler powder for centuries. It is especially important in oriental medicine because deer are considered the animal with the most Yang energy. Korea actually is the number one consumer of velvet antler. Elk antler velvet is also used for medicinal purposes.
WHAT IS VELVET DEER ANTLER AND HOW IS IT HARVESTED?
In Spring the antler cycle begins for all animals with antlers. As the new antlers grow, the hard antlers from the previous season are shed and the growth of the new season's velvet crop begins. That is when the velvet is harvested. After the velvet deer antler (as opposed to a hardened deer antler) has been removed, it is frozen. After freezing, it is then ready to be processed. If it is removed at this ideal time, still in the cartilaginous state, almost all of the antler can be used for medicinal purposes.
WHAT ARE VELVET DEER ANTLERS USED FOR?
Velvet deer antlers have been reported to help with, increase hemoglobin levels, increase lung efficiency, controlling blood pressure,improve muscle tone and glandular functions, sharpen mental alertness, and relieve the inflammation of arthritis. It has recently been reported to help with fibromyalgia and to be a type of natural hgh substitute.
