Whitetail Deer Sheds
The whitetail deer sheds can be found all over the North American continent. Every year in the spring, this species of deer grows a set of antlers composed of calcified bone. At first, the antlers are covered with velvet, but this coating will eventually fall off after the antlers have reached maturity. In the winter, this set of antlers will fall off.
Once they have fallen off they are referred to as sheds. It would seem reasonable to think that these sheds were found by people who walk around in the wilderness, but this is not the case. Because of their high demand, these antlers are usually recovered from whitetail deer farms. It is much easier to collect the antlers when the deer are in a pin than when they are out in the vast wilderness. Hunters and artisans often search for these sheds every year as keepsake items and as reminders of how big the males are on the property.
Over the years, the whitetail deer has become a precious commodity and its antlers have become prized possessions. People use them for all sorts of decorations and mounts. Whitetail deer sheds are most commonly used for various household decorations.
One of the most desired items made from deer antler is the chandelier. Unlike any other type of chandelier, an antler chandelier features cascades of antlers that accompany the lighting fixtures. These items blend in perfectly with any cabin, lodge or rustic looking home. Other products made from deer sheds are antler floor and table lamps which are great for people looking to add a small touch to their home. Whitetail deer sheds are also used to make knives as well as many other products.
